Cumberland Valley Quilters Association (CVQA) of Franklin Tennessee, was established in 1981, and has a membership spanning multiple generations. CVQA's mission is to promote the art of quilting and to learn through shared knowledge, lectures and workshops by nationally known quilting experts.
CVQA’s community outreach, an extension of our mission, has a long history of charitable acts. In 2021, CVQA donated over 120 quilts, pillowcases, stuffed animals, and wheelchair bags, to local and national charities. Each year CVQA donates a spectacular quilt to the the Ronald McDonald House annual auction. CVQA provides donated quilts to individuals in need, including those who suffered fires, flooding, tornadoes, illness, or personal tragedy. In addition, through our Quilts of Valor program, CVQA has presented over 100 quilts to veterans of the Armed Forces.
In 2020, when the world was dealing with COVID-19 and the overwhelmingly demand for N95 masks all over the world, the members of the CVQA answered Vanderbilt University Hospitals call for homemade mask, sewing thousands of masks from surgical draping material supplied by the hospital. Working from Nashville to Columbia and everywhere in between, the CVQA members' output was remarkable: producing 4,000 masks in ten days, and a final total of 12,000 masks, and over 1,000 cloth masks made from their own supplies.
CVQA meets monthly and is governed by a board of directors managing the operations and communications.
